Gotland

Gotland is Sweden’s largest and the sunniest island. It is also the largest island fully encompassed by the Baltic Sea.
Here you can have a rest by the sea and discover the ancient history of the island. The medieval town of Visby is UNESCO-listed. Its impressive fortress wall has surrounded the old city from ancient times. Visby belonged to the Hanseatic League.

There are ruins of 12 medieval churches and some original old houses in Visby. Throughout the island you can find more than 100 medieval churches of XII-XIV, hundreds of prehistoric ruins, burial mounds and forts. Around the island there are located runic stones with ancient Vikings inscriptions.
There are many different entertainment in the summer for families. You can swim and sunbathe, and why not visit the home of Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren from a fairy tale? In Visby there are many different kinds of shops, restaurants, museums, cafes and hotels.
Every year on the first Sunday of August Medieval Week takes place in Gotland. Entire week Visby is immersed in medieval knight tournaments, music, theater and exhibitions. The event attracts visitors from all over Europe.
Gotland can be visited all year round.
